When we found out I was pregnant, we were ecstatic! Me being me, I wanted to do something out of the ordinary. Every week I took a photo of my belly with the fruit or vegetable the size of the foetus in front of my belly. When the week of the pea came around, I decided to create a pea-inspired three-course meal to celebrate. I 'invited' my husband to an intimate dinner for two with a quick invitation I made. Since twins run in the family, I played around with the idea of twins, hence the two-peas-in-a-pod theme. The starter was a pea soup garnished with cooked peas, bacon croutons and fresh cream. The soup was really creamy and delish, a definite winner. For the main course, my husband was in charge of braaiing the lamb chops while I prepared the sides. I always wanted to try lamb chops with pea puree, so that's what was on the menu. For the sides I made pea puree, snap peas and chips. The pea puree was cold, and was not as appetising as I expected, but at least I can tick it off my bucket list. The rest of the meal was quite enjoyable. For dessert, I made a recipe I really looked forward to - a dessert with peas! There were two pea elements - a pea cake, and a pea and white chocolate mousse. The cake was baked in small half-sphere moulds, topped with buttercream icing. It was divine, and there was no trace of peas on the palate. For the plating, I put one scoop of pea mousse in the middle, with a pea cake on each side, and an edible flower. This dessert was amazing! The Invitation
