Welcome to the second leg of the Trip Around the World During Lockdown tour! Be sure to read my previous blog on the first leg of our trip around the world here, if you missed it. The second leg of the tour was hosted by Knight Antipasto (aka Knight 'traditional first course of a formal Italian meal'). So naturally, this trip consisted of various snacks and starters from around the world. Get your appetite ready and let the mouth-watering tour begin! The first leg of our trip, the drinks leg, ended in Poland. From there, we hopped over to Germany for the first stop of leg two. Since Germany is famous for its sausages, the infamous Brockwurst was the obvious choice. I prepared these in advance, and it was proven that good sausage remains good, whether served hot or cold. As they say in Germany: Genieße deine Wurst! From Germany we hopped over to Greece! And how could I not serve Kalamata olives? Originally I wanted to do a Greek dessert and serve Gemlik olives from Turkey, but Kalamata olives are much easier to find, so I changed the menu slightly. In the spirit of the evening, all of us ate at least one olive, although none of us really likes purple olives. At least we got in some antioxidants! Since we're kind of on the topic of Greek tapas, let's move on to the humus! You might think it originated in Greece, but actually the Egyptians came up with this delicious and super healthy chickpea spread! So we headed to Egypt and imagined ourselves enjoying humus among the pyramids and mummies! But of course humus is not meant to be eaten on its own ... One continent over, we found some naan bread from India to enjoy with the humus. Naan bread was originally served as breakfast to noble families. Who would've thought! I also love butter chicken curry and felt the need to add another spread to accompany the naan bread. So instead of butter chicken, I created my own delicious curry dip! This dip consists of cream, a few curry spices and lots of love. My new go-to dip for parties! Last stop - China! Delicious vegetable spring rolls (thank you, take-away restaurant ...) with a perfect sweet and sour dipping sauce. And as usual, we ate too much, too soon ...
This concluded the snacks tour. We went back to sunny South Africa for a short break before eagerly embarking on leg three of the world tour. Be on the lookout for the next post about our journey - mains hosted by Monsieur Repas Principal - not to be missed!
